New York Times publication

A New York Times blog twice reproduced a photograph I shot last February for Bloomberg News about the financial crisis in Bucharest, Romania to illustrate a piece about bad customer service. They make no mention of the photograph's location and it's interesting how readers could think it's a photo from downtown Manhattan. Harrowing 1988 Time Magazine report about life in Romania

The account puts into stark relief why Romania is the way it is in 2009. Oppression was so great under Ceausescu and life became so bizarre, that no wonder Romania is a bit wild these days. The pendulum just had to swing the other way.
